Chosen by the University of Coventry’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (International Development), Professor David Pilsbury, the successful recipients of the Global Leaders Scholarship will be awarded to three aspirational international students who can demonstrate their drive and ambition to become international global leaders of the future.

Brief description:
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT)offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2018.

Scholarship Benefits/Durations:
The scholarship includes tuition and other fees, allowance of 117,000 yen per month, an additional monthly stipend of 2,000 or 3,000 yen may be provided to those undertaking study or research in specially designated regions, and travel costs to and from Japan. The scholarship period will last for five years from April 2018 to March 2023, including the one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects due to be provided upon arrival in Japan.
Eligibility:
(1) Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. However, persons with dual nationality who hold Japanese nationality and whose place of residence at the time of application is outside of Japan are eligible to apply as long as they choose the nationality of the foreign country and give up their Japanese nationality by the date of their arrival in Japan. Applicant screening will be conducted at the Japanese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country
(2) Age: Applicants, in principle, must have been born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2001.
(3) Academic Background: Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:
  1. Must have completed 12 years of school education, or are expected to complete said education by March 2018. (However, for applicants wishing to enroll from the autumn term through direct placement, applicants must be expected to complete the 12 years of school education by August 2018.)
  2. Must have completed an educational course at a school equivalent to a high school, or are expected to complete the course by 2018. (However, those desiring direct placement are excluded.)
  3. Other than the qualifications in 1 and 2 above, must have qualifications deemed to be suitable for enrollment in a Japanese university at the time of application.
(4) Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese.
(5) Health: Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s study in Japan.
(7) Arrival in Japan: In principle, applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2018. If an applicant is to enroll in his/her university from the fall semester through direct placement, he or she must be able to leave for and arrive in Japan by the date specified by the accepting university.
(7) Visa Requirement: The applicant shall receive a “Student” visa, as stipulated in Appended Table 1(4) of the Immigration Act, and enter Japan with the residence status of “Student.” In regards to the visa, it should, in principle, be issued at the Japanese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country.

College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: For Ontario high school students, the minimum admission requirement is the completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, and six 4U/M courses, including ENG4U. Students may also be required to fulfil Faculty or program-specific prerequisites.
English Language Requirement: Programs at Keele Campus are offered in English, while programs at Glendon Campus are offered in a bilingual environment (English and French). To gain admission, students must demonstrate language proficiency in their program’s language of instruction. These are general guidelines only. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. York University reserves the right to require a successfully completed language proficiency test.

Through a $13 million partnership with The MasterCard Foundation, Ashesi University College will be awarding significant financial support to qualified undergraduate students who need such assistance to pursue bachelors degree.
Half of the scholarships funded by the Master Card Foundation will be awarded to non-Ghanaians. This scholarship covers not only the full tuition, but also includes housing in Ashesi’s residence halls, meals on campus, a free laptop, spending money and annual trips home for international students after the second year.

    These Commonwealth Master's Scholarships allow successful applicants to benefit from the expertise provided by universities in low and middle income countries around the Commonwealth. They are majority funded by the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP).
    The scholarships give talented students – who can be from any Commonwealth country other than the host country – the opportunity to gain a Master's degree while developing new skills and experiencing life in another country.

    • The scholarships are fully-funded. They provide full tuition fees, a return economy flight, an arrival allowance, and a regular stipend (living allowance).

    Selection Criteria and Eligibility

    The Toronto MasterCard Foundation Scholars Programme is open to you if you are a resident and citizen of a Sub-Saharan Africa country. You must be a first-time applicant to the University of Toronto who has not yet begun university study elsewhere. If you are a transfer student, you are not eligible for the Program.
    In order to be eligible for the Toronto MasterCard Foundation Scholars Programme, you must:

    1.     be a resident and a graduating high school student of a country within Sub-Saharan Africa;

    2.    demonstrate financial need correspondent to that of the lowest two quintiles of your country;

    3.     have very strong academic results within your school system;

    4.   have a record of leadership and extracurricular involvement;

    5.     maintain a strong desire to return to Africa to assist and work towards enhanced regional socioeconomic development;

    6.  be graduating from a recognized secondary school, or have completed the necessary academic requirements; and

    7.  fulfill the necessary English requirements (dependent on country);

    Number of Scholarships: 67 scholarships will be offered throughout the life of the program
    Value of Scholarship:

    1.  If selected, you will receive a scholarship equivalent to the costs related to attaining a Bachelor’s degree, including travel, tuition, textbooks, housing, food, and living expenses. You will also receive financial, academic, social, and post-graduation support which will enable you to build experiences and competencies critical for academic success.

    2.  Internships: The program includes two unpaid internships. The first will take place in the Toronto area for three months during your second summer to provide local practical work experience and skills. The second internship will take place in Africa during your third summer.

    3.   There will be funding available to help you with the cost of a passport. If you do not own a passport, the program will aid in passport applications and related costs.
